Rally Day & Pastor’s Last Sunday

September 9, 2017 by Rev. Hendrix Leave a Comment

Tomorrow, Sunday, September 10 is our annual Rally Day, the Sunday when Bible classes start again after the summer hiatus.

A breakfast provided by the Ladies’ Aid will follow the 8:00am service.

Tomorrow is also Pastor Hendrix’s last Sunday at Calvary and Grace following his acceptance of his call to Faith, Oregon, WI which he received in July.

And as always, please join us not just for these events but for the Divine Service, where God continues to serve us through His Word and Sacraments.

Scripture in our Services

February 16, 2017 by Rev. Hendrix Leave a Comment

When I was young, I never understood why we had such a long and seemingly rote liturgy, or order of service. What I didn’t know was that literally every part of our service is taken from Scripture, either word for word, or based on Scripture.

The section of our liturgy called the Service of the Word (the part of our service where we pause to read and meditate on Scripture: usually consisting of the Psalm (introit), Old Testament, Epistle, and Gospel lessons) comes straight from the Jewish synagogue services – centuries, even Millennia, before Christ. The Service of the Sacrament is based on what Jesus told His followers to do whenever they gathered together in His name. It was carried on by the apostles and, over the years, surrounded by more Scripture so that we don’t forget what it is that we’re doing: that we are in the presence of God, actually eating and drinking the body and blood of the Lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world. We actually see, touch, and taste our salvation. That’s the purpose for everything in our service: to tell us something about Christ and our salvation.

This Sunday is Sexagesima Sunday, the Sunday of the Church Year where we focus on God’s Word. I have printed the entire Common Service in our service folder with the Scripture references for each part on the right margin. The references in brackets mean that the particular part is based on the passage, rather than quoting it.

O Lord, sanctify us by Your truth. Your Word is truth. (John 17:17)

Table Talk

February 10, 2017 by Rev. Hendrix Leave a Comment

This Lenten season, helping us to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, during our Lenten meals, we will have “Table Talk.”  Table Talk is what Martin Luther called his conversations about Biblical topics as he, his family, his guests, and his friends, gathered around his table for food, fellowship, and instruction.

Join us at 6:15 for our Lenten Meals.  Table Talk will be a casual presentation by pastor while others are eating from around 6:30 to 6:45.

Lenten Vespers will begin at 7:00pm.

Welcome Message

October 24, 2016 by Rev. Hendrix Leave a Comment

Thank you for visiting our web site. We hope you find it helpful to get to know us.

Join us as we hear, learn, and believe the whole counsel of God, we hear and learn the law of God, which shows us our sins, and the Gospel of the Lord, which shows us the grace, love, forgiveness and gift of salvation from our Savior. Through the Word and Sacraments we receive by faith all of God’s gifts of life and salvation in Jesus. We know from Jesus that the purpose of His Word is to make us wise unto salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

It is by the grace of God we belong to a faithful fellowship in the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) where we can be supported and support others and mission work with this one saving message.  We are also thankful to be in fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).

Come and visit us and we will do whatever we can to make you feel at home!

Our worship is held each Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Sunday School at 9:00 a.m.

God’s Word on the Go

October 24, 2016 by Rev. Hendrix Leave a Comment

The Third Commandment means that we should fear and love God…and hold His Word sacred and gladly hear and learn it.  The chief way God gives us His Word is in the Divine Service on Sunday mornings in both Word and Sacrament.

Sometimes however, we aren’t able to make it to our home church, due to sickness, weather, or travel.  For these reasons, our sermons are now available to listen on-demand online (usually by late Monday morning).

You can listen to the latest sermon here:
